Renal Dysfunction Among People Living With HIV in Dar es Salaam

Longer survival with effective antiretroviral therapy makes chronic conditions increasingly important in HIV care. This study examined kidney vulnerability among adults already engaged in treatment. Renal dysfunction was identified in about 11% of participants, with older age emerging as an important associated factor while several other examined characteristics were not statistically associated. The study broadens the definition of successful HIV care beyond viral suppression and raises practical questions about renal screening, referral and chronic-care integration.
