HIV Drug Resistance Among Adolescents and Young Adults in Tanzania

High national viral-suppression rates can conceal a smaller group of young people facing treatment failure and resistance. The study focused on adolescents and young adults, a life stage with distinctive adherence and transition challenges. Overall suppression was high, but resistance mutations among those with unsuppressed viral load showed why a headline percentage does not describe every treatment pathway. Programmes need to identify the young people who remain viraemic, understand adherence and service barriers, and preserve effective future regimen options.
