HIV, TB & Infectious Diseases
Overview
Infectious-disease programmes are often described through targets - testing, treatment initiation, viral suppression, case detection. WEMA's work focuses on the connections between those targets. A person may be tested but never linked; a contact may be identified but never assessed; a woman living with HIV may attend a clinic but still miss cervical screening or treatment; an adolescent may avoid services because the social cost of being seen seeking care feels too high.
This Theme therefore treats HIV, TB and related infectious-disease work as a set of care cascades embedded in real health systems and communities. The scientific questions concern linkage, retention, integration, stigma, referral, active case finding and the ability of programmes to adapt when climate, mobility or resource insecurity disrupt continuity.
