Emerging Integrase-Inhibitor Resistance in Tanzania

Emerging Integrase-Inhibitor Resistance in Tanzania publication hero

Dolutegravir has a high barrier to resistance, but strong drugs still require surveillance among people who remain viraemic. This national study looked for early warning signals. Resistance mutations were common among successfully genotyped people with high viraemia, including a small but important number of integrase-inhibitor mutations. The finding supports continued resistance surveillance while preserving the crucial distinction between resistance in a high-viraemia subgroup and the overall effectiveness of dolutegravir-based treatment.
