What Makes a City Easier to Walk or Cycle?

Advice to walk or cycle assumes that destinations, streets and safety make those behaviours realistic. Land-use mix diversity and access were consistently associated with more walking and cycling; connectivity, safety and aesthetics mattered for different forms of activity, and patterns varied by country-income group. The study locates part of physical activity inside urban planning rather than placing responsibility entirely on individuals.
