Place Was More Than a Distance on the Transplant Pathway

Distance to a transplant centre is measurable, but the lived meaning of place includes community, culture, family, trust and the organization of specialist care. Participants described barriers that could not be reduced to kilometres alone, including the consequences of leaving home, service organization and the practical demands of specialist assessment. The study reframes geography as a relationship between people and health systems rather than a simple travel-distance variable.
